J&K: Army Jawan martyred in Pak ceasefire violation in Sunderbani sector

Naik Aneesh Thomas was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries after a ceasefire violation by Pakistan at the Sunderbani Sector

Srinagar: Indian soldier Naik Aneesh Thomas lost his life after suffering injuries in yet another ceasefire violation by Pakistan at the Sunderbani Sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (September 15).

Confirming the development, Defence spokesman, Colonel Devender Anand said, "On 15 Sep 2020, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation along the line of control (LoC) in Sunderbani Sector, District Rajouri (J&K). Own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire. In the incident, Naik Aneesh Thomas was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries."

"Naik Aneesh Thomas was a brave, highly motivated and a sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," the statement added.

It is pertinent to mention here that a total of 3,186 incidents of ceasefire violations by Pakistan were reported along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region

Addressing the Parliament on Monday, Minister of State for Defence Shripad Naik said that 3,186 incidents of ceasefire violations were reported along the LoC in Jammu region from January 1-September 7.

Moreover, 242 incidents of cross-border firing have occurred along India-Pak International Border in Jammu region in this year (January 1 to August 31, 2020)," he added.

He further confirmed that eight Army personnel have been killed and two others injured in the ceasefire violation related incidents till September 7.
