New Delhi: The premier educational institute of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) will start the four-years undergraduate programme in various disciplines. The university also took the decision of starting online mode of Master's level programme which do not require any laboratory work.

Both of these decisions along with a few other decisions were taken during an academic meeting of the varsity on Thursday.

However, JNU Teachers Association (JNUTA) said that the decisions were taken at the academic council meeting without any formal consultation with the various schools of the university.

The teachers' body said in a statement, "Despite the wide praise for JNU faculty and students by none other than the President and Prime Minister of India over the past few days, the move by JNU administration to exclude both JNUTA and JNUSU (students union) from the 155th Academic Council meeting held today, once again demonstrates the scant regard that the Vice-Chancellor and his team has for the democratic practices followed in the past by previous administrations."

They further condemned the several attempts made by the JNU administration to not represent the faculty members of various schools and centres of the varsity in their decisions.

The meeting also saw the discussion over the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. They have further decided to set up a separate committee to implement the policy recommendations.

A Special Centre for Systems Medicine (SCSM) will be established in the university. The vice-chancellor of JNU, M Jagadesh Kumar said that this centre would "serve as a national hub for the development of India specific clinical and molecular data and its application in the area of Systems Medicine."
