Kannauj:

UP Couple Sells 3 month old Son for Car: What is more important for you? A car or your child? Most of you would say what kind of a question is that. Obviously, the child is more important. But here is this couple from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh who sold their 3-months-old newborn to buy a car, that too a second-hand one. Just bizarre and incomprehensible.

The inhumane and disgusting incident was brought to light on Thursday after the child's maternal grandparents went to the cops and filed a complaint against the parents, alleging that they had sold their newborn infant.

According to the police as per the complaint filed by the newborn child's maternal grandparents, the three-month-old baby was sold to a businessman in Gursahaiganj for a four-wheeler worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

"While the baby is still in the possession of the trader, we have called the woman and her husband for questioning on Friday," Inspector Kotwali Shailendra Kumar Mishra told The Times of India.

In another similar incident, a man in China's Zhejiang province recently sold his two-year-old son and used the proceeds to travel around the country. According to Zhejiang Legal Daily, the man surnamed Xie used to fight with his second wife all the time and is alleged to have sold his son in order to escape the burden of child care.

This bizarre incident is an example of how selfish materialistic desires have blinded humans from the basic tenets of humanity. A four-wheeler is still a distant dream for many people, which, other than being a convenient mode of transportation is also perceived by people as a status symbol. Nevertheless, even thinking about exchanging your own blood child for a car is nothing short of a sin.

This heinous act committed by this uncouth and selfish couple is unjustifiable and a blot on humanity.

How far can we fall down the ladder of human conscience and where exactly do we draw the line in our pursuance of greedy materialistic pleasures is the question.
