Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 6-year-old boy was killed after a dispute between families over a woman in Nelamangala town of Karnataka on Thursday.

Mohammed Riyan was beaten to death with an iron rod allegedly by his cousin Dada Peer, 22, a daily wage worker. Later, Peer dumped the body in a water tank on the terrace of the building where the boy lived.

Riyan was the elder child of laborers Mohammed Chaman and Ayesha. Peer, who is the son of Chaman's elder brother, worked with his uncle. Chaman's family stayed in Danojipalya, where Peer too lived with his parents.

Peer was reportedly angry with Chaman as the latter intervened in a dispute, where the former allegedly sexually harassed a woman from another religion at Harapanahalli in Davanagere last year.
Unconfirmed reports said Peer had married the woman despite opposition from families on both sides.

"Chaman forced Peer to distance himself from the woman. Last year, the woman's family filed a sexual harassment case against Peer with Harapanahalli police. Based on that, police arrested Peer and he was in judicial custody for six months. Recently, Peer walked out on bail and the case is still going on. From that day, Peer developed differences with Chaman. Peer claimed Chaman forced him to stay away from the woman and also encouraged her family to file a police complaint against him. Peer fought with Chaman a couple of times over the issue," a police officer said.
