Kashi Vishwanath Dham Varanasi: Know About Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor Project and Temple History

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday 13 December inaugurated the Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor Project of Rupees 339 crore in Varanasi connecting the Temple and its ghats along with the river Ganga.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday 13 December inaugurated the Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor Project of Rupees 339 crore in Varanasi aiming for the simultaneous development of religious sites and infrastructure development as a key to the progress of new India.

The PM said that this Corridor project is a testament to a resurgent India connecting modernity with ancient civilization. While talking about the features of the temple corridor the PM asked people to take 3 resolutions that are creation, cleanliness and constant efforts towards self-reliant India (Atmanibhar Bharat). He focuses mainly on maintaining cleanliness in the city and the ghats which should be paid more attention to.

The Kashi-Vishwanath Temple Corridor Project in Varanasi connects the Kashi Vishwanath Dham and various ghats along with the Ganga River. The main objective of this Kashi-Vishwanath Corridor Project is to ensure comfortable and easy movements of devotees and pilgrims on their way to the ghats and temple. Making the pathways easily accessible for pilgrims visiting the sacred place and ghats is the main concern through this Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi.

Before this corridor the visitors mainly the aged people struggled a lot as they had to pass through the difficult and congested route while visiting the temple for worshipping. After the completion of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the pilgrims from different places can easily reach the temple without any difficulty or inconvenience. And now 50, 000 to 75, 000 people can visit the Kashi Vishwanath Mandir and its premises following their religious bath in the Ganga River.

History of Kashi Vishwanath Temple:

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most known Hindu temples which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The term Kashi comes from the ancient name of the Benaras city which is at present known as Varanasi and this place has religious high value as it is located on the banks of the holy river Ganga with numerous temples alongside. Among all the temples the most known is the Kashi Vishwanath Temple which receives millions of devotees every year.

It is said that the temple is the legend of Jyotilingas as it consists of one of the 12 Jyotirlingas also known as Jyotirlingams and this 1 Jyotirlinga makes it one of the holiest temples of Lord Shiva. The Lord of the Universe called by Hindus Shri Vishwanath is the major deity of Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

It is believed that the temple was demolished many times by various Muslim rulers and the last one was Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The structure of the temple seen at present is built by Ahilya Bai Holkar in the year 1780.
