Kerala: Kochi Emerges as India's Next Ship-Building Hub with PM Modi's initiatives

KERALA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated three major infrastructure projects in Kerala's Kochi on Wednesday, solidifying the city's position as the next ship-building hub of India. The newly inaugurated projects include the New Dry Dock at Cochin Shipyard Limited; the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL, and the LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi.

In his address to the gathering, the Prime Minister he emphasized the government's commitment to boosting the coastal capacity of cities like Kochi. He stated, "We are making efforts to increase the capacity of ports; to build and strengthen port infrastructure; and to enhance connectivity through initiatives like the Sagarmala Pariyojana." Modi envision Kochi as the upcoming epicenter of shipbuilding in the nation, highlighting the transformative impact of these infrastructure initiatives.

Underlining India's growing prominence in global trade, Modi expressed confidence in Kochi's evolution into a vital player in this scenario. He noted, "India is becoming the center of global trade, and soon we will see Kochi growing to be on the epitome of this!" The projects inaugurated are expected to contribute significantly to the nation's maritime capabilities and further boost economic development.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister paid a visit to Thriprayar Shree Ramaswamy Temple where he offered prayers. Reflecting on the spiritual significance of the temple, Modi remarked on the immeasurable divine energy and stated that he prayed for the happiness and prosperity of all Indians.

The projects' inauguration follows the Prime Minister's recent dedication of the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in Ayodhya, where he highlighted four temples in Kerala related to the Ramayana. His visit to Thriprayar Shree Ramaswamy Temple adds another dimension to his spiritual engagements during official functions.

Kochi's strategic importance is further underscored by the government's focus on expanding port capacities, fortifying infrastructure, and enhancing connectivity. The newly inaugurated facilities are poised to play a pivotal role in positioning Kochi as a crucial hub for shipbuilding and maritime activities.
