Kumkum, actress known for role in 'Mother India', passes away at 86

Actor Kumkum, who appeared in films like Aar Paar, CID, Kohinoor among more, has passed away. She was 86

Guwahati: Actor Jagdeep's son Naved Jaffri took to his social media to confirm that yesteryear Bollywood actress Kumkum has passed away at the age of 86. 

The Mother India actress had been a part of close to 100 films. She starred in mega-hit, iconic films such as Mr. X in Bombay, Son of India, Kohinoor, Ujala, Naya Daur, Shreeman Funtoosh, Ek Sapera Ek Lutera, Ganga Ki Laharen, Raja Aur Runk, Aankhen, Lalkaar, Geet and Ek Kuwara Ek Kuwari.

Kumkum was a trained Kathak dancer and showcased her prowess in iconic songs such as 'Madhuban Mein Radhika Nache Re' from 'Kohinoor'; 'Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar' from 'Aar Paar' or 'Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan' from 1956's 'CID'. She also starred in the first Bhojpuri film 'Ganga Maiya Tohe Piyari Chadibo' (1963).

Kumkum's last rites took place at the Mazgaon cemetery.
