Madhya Pradesh DIG's brutal assualt on wife captured on camera; video goes viral

Bhopal: Purushottam Sharma, Director General of Police from Madhya Pradesh has been relieved from his duty as in charge of the Directorate of Public Prosecution after a video clip in which the is seen assaulting his wife went viral on social media platforms on Sunday.

According to an order issued by the Home Department, the 1986 batch IPS officer Sharma was relieved of his charge at the directorate "with immediate effect".

Sharma's son reportedly made charges of domestic violence against him in a letter dashed off to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, home minister Narottam Mishra, and director general of police Vivek Johari,

In the clip that went viral on Sunday, the officer is seen pushing, hitting, and pinning down his wife while two other men, probably from his staff, look on. At one point in the video, Sharma points at his hands and complains that his wife had injured him.

Meanwhile, Sharma has denied indulging in any violence, and claimed that the matter is between him and his wife. As per reports, Sharma's wife had complained against him in 2008 also.

She complained against me earlier too in 2008. We have been married for 32 years. She is living with me and enjoying all the facilities and even travelling abroad on my expenses. The point is if she is upset with me why she is living with me," the cop told reporters.

Meanwhile, the Madhya Pradesh State Women's Commission said it will take suo motu cognizance of the incident. The Commission's chairperson Shobha Oza has appealed to the government to take strict action against the cop.

Meanwhile, the incident has also been brought to the notice of Narottam Mishra said that he came to know about it through media. He has promised to look into the incident.
