MUMBAI: The government of India is providing two doses of Covid vaccine for which the third phase has already started today.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra, a final year MBBS student was hospitalized on Saturday after he developed mild symptoms and tested positive for Covid-19 days after taking the second 'Covishield' dose.
According to reports, the student who is currently under a doctor's observation said that even after getting the vaccine, immunity takes several days to develop.
Reportedly, the 21-years old final year student developed symptoms like mild fever and took a PCR test following which he was found positive for Covid-19.
Dr Balkrishna Adsul at Seven Hills Hospital said that it takes up to 45 days for the body to generate antibodies against the virus after all the doses of vaccine are administered.
Dr Mohan Joshi, dean at the Sion hospital said that the hospital has come across several cases where beneficiaries are getting infected after vaccination as their body couldn't generate immunity before the Covid-19 infection took over. Hence it is advised to follow all Covid-19 safety protocols like masking for some time, even after vaccination.
In Assam, the stage is all set for the third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive, the first phase was launched across the country from January 16 onwards.
The third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive has started at Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday along with the rest of the nation.
Following the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), a total of 30 persons vaccinated on the first day.
The vaccination program is now expanded to all citizens above 60 years of age.
Gauhati Medical College Hospital, Superintendent Dr Abhijit Sarma stated, "Almost 3,400 persons vaccinated in 1st and 2nd phase of COVID-19 vaccination drive. This is the next phase we have started, today 30 persons vaccinated on the 1st day. The vaccination process will continue on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. The vaccines will not provide to any person with a complex health condition."
