New Delhi: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Monday asked his party workers to refrain from performing 'Maha Aarti' on the occasion of 'Akshay Tritiya' on Tuesday as he doesn't want to disturb Muslims during the Eid festival.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, he shared a note, that mentioned that the Muslim community should also celebrate their festivities without any hindrances.
''Eid is being celebrated tomorrow. The Muslim community should also celebrate their festivities without any hindrances. I have already mentioned this in my Sambhajinagar rally. I appeal to my 'Maharashtra Sainiks'-not to perform 'Maha Aartis' on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya which will also be celebrated tomorrow,'' he said.
''We do not intend to cause any hindrances or obstacles to any religion during their festivities,'' he added.
He also reiterated that his campaign against loudspeakers was a social issue and he would disclose his future plans through Twitter on Tuesday.
"The loudspeaker issue is not a religious matter but a subject of public interest. What further needs to be done, I will inform tomorrow through my Twitter handle," the MNS president tweeted.
Notably, Thackeray on Sunday had warned to play Hanuman Chalisa with double volume compared to Azaan, if loudspeakers were not taken down.
He termed the use of loudspeakers in mosques as ''a social and not a religious issue''.
Notably, the MNS chief has been at the forefront of the loudspeaker controversy, asking the state mosques to take down loudspeakers by 3 May.
