Paritevadi village in Solapur district, Maharashtra.
He has received the Global Teacher Prize for promoting
girls' education and triggering a textbook revolution with Quick Action (QR)
codes in the country.
The annual prize was founded in 2014 by the Varkey Foundation
to recognize an exceptional teacher who has made outstanding contributions to
the profession.
Disale was congratulated by the Maharashtra Governor
Bhagat Singh Koshyari, CM Uddhav Thackeray and the head monk of Tibetan
Buddhism, Dalai Lama on being selected for the Global Teacher Prize 2020.
Dalai Lama took to Twitter and wrote," I'd like to congratulate Ranjitsinh Disale on being named the world's most exceptional teacher and to express my admiration for his generosity in sharing half the prize money with runners up in the competition. He has set an example of compassion in action ."
After winning the Prize, Mr. Disale said that he will give
50 percent of the prize money equally among the fellow top 10 contestants to
help them in their incredible work.
"The Corona epidemic has brought education and related communities in a difficult situation in many ways. But even in these difficult times, teachers are trying to ensure that every student gets a good education. So I am happy to announce that I will give half of the prize money to my fellow contestants for their incredible work. I believe that together, we can change this world because sharing is growing," he said.
According to a media report, when Mr. Disale reached
the Zilla Parishad Primary School of Paritwadi in Solapur in the year 2009, the
condition of the school building was in shambles. The school was like a cattle
dwelling. After seeing this condition, he took the responsibility that he would
improve the condition of this primary school and he did so.
"There are many teachers in the country who have
innovative ideas to change education and I think the fund can be used for such
talent," he added.
