Major Breakthrough for Indian Army; 2 Lashkar terrorists killed including Pak top commander

The militants who were killed in the encounter were involved in several recent attacks on security forces.

Srinagar: Two militants from Lashkar-e-Toeba (LeT) including a top Pakistani commander were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Old Barzulla area. The militants were involved in several recent attacks on security forces.

As per police officials, after receiving specific inputs, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Old Barzulla area in the early hours of Monday morning.

During the search, militants fired upon the forces and the forces retaliated ensuing an encounter, where two militants got killed in the gunfire.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh informed that one of the two killed militants was a Pakistani top commander of the LeT named Saifullah.

''Saifullah was involved in three back to back major attacks on security forces in Nowgam, Chadoora, and Kandizaal of the valley,'' told Singh at a press conference at the police control room.

He also said that Srinagar has witnessed eight encounters in which 180 militants have been killed.

''This year 75 successful anti-militancy operations have been carried out by the Indian forces out of which 180 terrorists were killed and 138 militants and their associates have been arrested so far and the numbers are more than the last year.''
