Guwahati: A building owner in the Daurala area of Meerut locked the Sakoti branch of the District Co-operative bank on Wednesday due to non-payment of rent.

The landlord, identified as Kiranpal Singh, had given his building for rent to the cooperative bank but for the last 8 years, there was a dispute between the bank and the building owner.

Reportedly, he locked the bank on Wednesday and refused to open it until the full rent was received. However, after the intervention of the Chairman of the bank, the lock of the bank was opened.

As per the landlord, the building was given for rent in 2007 and the agreement also ended following which he submitted the application to the bank numerous times, but no one paid any heed.

As per reports, it has also come to the fore that instead of increasing the rent, the bank reduced the rent as the bank deducted a sum of Rs 54,000 as a tax on a total amount of Rs 6 lakh which they handed over to the landlord.

Eventually, the chairman of the District Co-operative bank, Mahinder Pal Singh, requested the owner to open the bank, to which he agreed.
