Meet Ashok Elluswamy, The First Indian To Be Part of Elon Musk's Team

New Delhi: Tesla's founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk has revealed that the first employee appointed for his electric vehicle company's Autopilot team was of Indian origin and his name is Ashok Elluswamy.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Musk said,'' Ashok was the first to be admitted by my tweet that said Tesla is starting an Autopilot team!"

Praising his Autopilot AI Team, he said that the team is extremely talented and some of the smartest people in the world are part of it.

Who is Ashok Elluswamy?

Prior to joining Tesla, Ashok Elluswamy was associated with Volkswagen Electronic Research Lab and WABCO Vehicle Control Systems. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from the College of Engineering Guindy, Chennai and a master's degree in robotics systems development from Carnegie Mellon University.

In January 2014, Ashok joined Tesla's Autopilot team as a software engineer and in June 2016, he became a Senior Software Engineer.

After this, he didn't look back and became Senior Staff Software Engineer in September 2017 and Director of Autopilot Software in May 2019. In this way, Ashok has been associated with Tesla for the last 8 years and 1 month.

Notably, Musk recently had tweeted that Tesla is looking for hardcore artificial intelligence (AI) engineers who care about solving problems that directly impact people's lives at large.

The job application was simple, interested candidates were asked to fill in the fields like name, email, exceptional work done in software, hardware or AI and leave their resume in PDF format.
