Momos In 10-Mins? Zomato Clarifies Delivery Plan

New Delhi: After facing a massive backlash on social media, one of the popular food delivery apps Zomato, has clarified that not all food orders will be delivered in 10 minutes.

On Monday, Zomato had announced that it will deliver food orders in just 10 minutes following which it faced criticism on social media.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the founder Deepinder Goyal clarified that the 10-minute delivery service will only be available in on some items which are ''popular, standardized, and can therefore be dispatched within 2 minutes.

Further while replying to a Twitter query, Goyal informed highlighted the kind of food items that will be delivered in 10 minutes.

''Users can expect food items such as Bread, Omlette, Poha, Coffee, Chai, Briyani Momos etc to be delivered in 10-minutes under the Instant service,'' he added.

People Questioned The Safety of Delivery Partners

As soon as Zomato announced the instant service, it was trolled and also was questioned for not taking the safety of delivery partners seriously. While responding to trollers, Goyal said that the company will continue to educate agents on road safety.

We continue to educate our delivery partners on road safety, and provide accidental/life insurance as well,'' Goyal tweeted.

Further, he also revealed that the company won't inform delivery partners about the promised delivery time which according to him will ensure that no additional pressure is put on the delivery agent. In addition to this, he also promised not to penalize for late deliveries.

Idea Behind Instant Food Delivery

Explaining the idea behind the instant food delivery service, he said, ''After becoming a frequent customer of Blinkit (one of Zomato's investments in the quick commerce space), I started feeling that the 30-minute average delivery time by Zomato is too slow, and will soon have to become obsolete. If we don't make it obsolete, someone else will.'' he added.

''Innovating and leading from the front is the only way to survive (and therefore thrive) in the tech industry. And here we are… with our 10-minute food delivery offering – Zomato Instant,'' he added.
