MADHYA PRADESH:

Four guards and six dogs were deployed by a couple in Madhya Pradesh to prevent the theft of two mango trees.

Rani and Sankalp Parihar, an orchardist couple, planted two mango seedlings some years ago. However, they had no idea the two mango trees would mature and bore into rare ruby-colored mangoes, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Miyazaki mangoes are regarded to be one of the most expensive mango varietals in the world. According to the daily, which cited a Japanese media report, the Miyazaki mangoes, also known as an egg of the sun, sold for Rupees 2.70 lakh per kilogramme on the international market last year.

According to the farmer couple, burglars broke into their gardens last year and snatched the mangoes when word spread in the neighbourhood that they had begun cultivating this unusual fruit. However, the duo was successful in saving two trees.

As a result, the couple hired four guards and six dogs to safeguard the exotic trees and seven mangoes.

Parihar explained how they began cultivating this exceptional type of mango. He was on his way to Chennai to acquire some saplings when he encountered a man on a train who sold him what turned out to be Miyazaki. "He offered these saplings to me and asked to take care of these plants like our babies. We planted in the orchard without knowing what variety of mangoes it will produce".

Damini was the name given to the special types of mangoes, after the name of Sankalp's mother.

"Later, we researched about this variety and found the real name. But it is still Damini for me," Parihar told the daily.

Many people have expressed interest in purchasing Mirazaki mangoes, according to Sankalp's wife Rani. She stated that a Mumbai-based jeweller is prepared to spend Rs. 21,000 for a mango.

However, the couple has opted not to sell the mangoes yet and would instead cultivate them.

Miyazaki mangoes are cultivated in Miyazaki, Japan. The mango weighs more than 350 grammes and has a sugar level of 15% or more. These mangoes are high in antioxidants and include beta-carotene and folic acid, making them ideal for those who suffer from weary eyes. They are harvested between the months of April and August.
