'My grandmother asked me to steal' Juvenile tells Delhi police

NEW DELHI: After a juvenile was apprehended by the Delhi Police for stealing valuables from parked cars in south Delhi, he accused his mother and grandmother for forcing him to steal for them. The police have arrested Maari, the grandmother of the juvenile in connection with the case, while search is on to nab his mother who is absconding.

The matter came to light on July 27 when the handbag of the complainant containing Rs 1,20,000 was stolen from his car from Madangiri in south Delhi.

After the registration of a case, the police collected CCTV footages from various places in the area, which led to the arrest of a 12-year-old boy. The police said that Rs 5,000 was recovered from the boy's possession at the time of his arrest. "The boy disclosed that he stole the bag containing money from the car on the direction of his mother Geeta and grandmother Maari, who used him to commit thefts," said DCP South Atul Thakur.

His grandmother Maari has been arrested in the bag containing Rs 1,05,000 has been recovered from her possession. She said her daughter-in-law Geeta used her son for theft while she kept the stolen goods given to her by her Geeta. (IANS)
