NEW DELHI: In a bid to rejuvenate the Indian cinema experience, the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) is gearing up for the grand celebration of National Cinema Day on October 13, 2023. This special day promises moviegoers across the country an opportunity to indulge in the magic of the silver screen at an affordable price of just Rs 99 per ticket. This exciting initiative is expected to boost attendance at movie theaters and rekindle the joy of watching films on the big screen.

Over 4,000 screens, including renowned cinema chains like PVR, Inox, Cinepolis, Miraj, Citypride, Asian, Mukta A2, Movie Time, WAVE, M2K, Delite, and others, will be participating in this nationwide celebration of cinema. The decision to offer tickets at this unbeatable price point for a day is a strategic move by MAI to encourage more people to experience the joy of watching movies in theaters, especially after the challenging times faced by the industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The official announcement was made by the Multiplex Association of India via their official social media channels, including X (formerly known as Twitter). They took to their Twitter handle, stating, "National Cinema Day is back on October 13th. Join us at over 4000+ screens across India for an incredible cinematic experience, with movie tickets priced at just Rs. 99. It's the perfect day to enjoy your favorite films with friends and family."

The success of the previous year's National Cinema Day, which saw over 65 lakh moviegoers thronging to cinemas, marked September 23 as the highest attended day of the year. Most of the shows were sold out, and the iconic "Houseful" boards made a comeback at the ticket counters. Encouraged by this overwhelming response, the Association decided to continue experimenting with low-priced models to make cinema more accessible to a wider audience.

In the previous year, tickets were priced at an even lower rate of Rs 75, and the collections soared to around Rs 48 crore across films of various languages. According to the trade website Box Office India, the mystery thriller 'Chup: Revenge of the Artist' managed to collect around Rs 2.75-3 crore on its first day. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated superhero flick 'Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva,' starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, earned a staggering Rs 8.50 crore.

This year, the excitement is palpable as the latest blockbuster 'Jawan' is expected to benefit from this special weekend in mid-October. The film features an ensemble cast, including Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara, and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, promising an exceptional cinematic experience for all movie enthusiasts.

National Cinema Day 2023 promises to be a cinematic extravaganza that brings the magic of the silver screen closer to the hearts of Indian audiences. With tickets priced at just Rs 99, this initiative by the Multiplex Association of India aims to reignite the love for movies in theaters and create unforgettable memories for families and friends across the nation.
