Chandigarh: Navjot Singh Sidhu has stepped down as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
This announcement of his resignation was made by the Congress leader in a letter dated September 28, 2021, addressed to the President of the Indian Nation Congress, Sonia Gandhi.
Congress leader's letter of resignation reads, "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Will continue to serve the Congress."
Earlier this month, the former Chief Minister of Punjab Amarinder Singh had called Sidhu a dangerous man who will lead Punjab to the path of destruction.
"He is dangerous for the state", Singh had said about Sidhu. "I was ready to leave after a victory but never after a loss."
Amarinder Singh was against Sidhu's candidature for the post of Chief Minister of Punjab after his resignation and said that he would make any sacrifice to save the state from such a dangerous man.
On September 19, Charanjit Singh Channi was appointed as the Chief Minister of Punjab. With this, Channi also became the first Dalit Chief Minister of Punjab.
