New Delhi: PM Modi Pays Tribute to Gandhi and Shastri on Their Birth Anniversary

NEW DELHI: In a solemn ceremony on Gandhi Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, two iconic figures in India's history, who share October 2nd as their birth anniversary. Modi's homage to these great leaders took place at Rajghat and Vijay Ghat memorials in the early morning hours.

At Rajghat, where Mahatma Gandhi's memorial stands on the banks of the Yamuna River, Modi offered floral tributes to the Father of the Nation. His message on this occasion highlighted the enduring relevance of Gandhi's teachings, which continue to guide and inspire humanity globally. An interfaith prayer service was also held at Rajghat, featuring Gandhi's favorite devotional songs.

Modi's message read, "I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. Mahatma Gandhi's impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster to be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over."

Additionally, Modi shared a video of the visually impaired German singer, Cassandra Mae, performing Gandhi's favorite prayer, 'Vaishnava Jana To,' emphasizing the universal resonance of Gandhi's thoughts.

The Prime Minister also paid tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri at Vijay Ghat. He lauded Shastri's iconic call for 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer), which remains relevant today. Modi praised Shastri's unwavering commitment to India's progress and his exemplary leadership during challenging times, urging the nation to continue working towards realizing Shastri's vision for a strong India.

This commemorative event on Gandhi Jayanti serves as a reminder of the enduring legacies of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, who continue to inspire India and the world with their teachings and leadership.
