NEW DELHI: In order to cope with the complexities that occurs in the bordering regions, Defence Research and Development Organisations (DRDO) has evolved an unnamed aerial vehicle (UAV).
UAV is a tethered multi-copter that will serve the purpose of logistics operations in the Himalayan border region. Most recently, the DRDO demonstrated the brand new UAV at the 108th Indian Science Congress in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The unnamed aerial vehicle was tested in Sikkim where it successfully covered an altitude of 14,000 feet. It is current under examination, however after two more trials, the UAV will be deployed in the military force.
Initially the multi-copter had a payload capacity of 5kg to 25kg but the DRDO is planning to develop its maximum capacity to 30kg. The UAV helps to carry out autonomous missions, while navigating with a radius of up to 5 km.
Interestingly, the multi copter could be used to drop bombs in needed areas as moves automatically to certain specified areas. Once the task is done, it returns back to its original junction. The UAV is widely known as drone, which is briefly an aircraft without a pilot in it.
They are considered as an important assets to most militaries to deal with missions that are too dull, dirty or dangerous for humans.
These are utilised in various purposes such as aerial photography, product deliveries, entertainment, policing and surveillance, drone racing and so on. Their versatility in employment has changed over time. UAVs are used by more than hundred militaries across the globe.
The Himalayan Region needs the UAVs to keep a constant eye along the border. Indian Army in 2022, issued a request to RPF to get 163 drones that can operate at high altitude and 200 additional drones that could be used in medium altitude.
The newly developed UAVs in Himalaya region will operate in various activities like food supplies, small fuel needs, light ammunition and so on.
