Now male single parent govt employees can avail Child Care Leave

Of the total 730 days of leave, employees will get full salary during the first 365 days and 80 per cent of the salary in the next 365 days

New Delhi: Male government employees who are single parent and raising child alone are entitled to child care leave said Union Minister of Northeastern region Jitendra Singh.

Referring to the decision as a path-breaking and progressive reform to ensure ease of living for government employees, the minister also said that although the order was passed earlier but not many people were aware about it.

The order making single, male government employees eligible for this leave was earlier passed in 2018.

Elaborating further, he said out of the total 730 days of leave, employees will get full salary during the first 365 days and 80 per cent of the salary in the next 365 days.

The privilege of Child Care Leave will be eligible for those male government employees who happen to be 'single parent' including widower, divorcee, unmarried male government employee.

He also informed that an employee on child care leave can leave the headquarters with the prior approval of the competent authority.

The employee can also avail Leave Travel Concession (LTC) if he is on Child Care Leave.

The Union minister further added that in case of a disabled child, the condition that CCL can be availed by the parents only till the child reaches 22 years of age has been removed. Now, it can be availed till any point of time.

Child Care Leave is usually granted to women employees. This is allowed for a period of maximum two years during the entire service before their child reaches the age of 18.

He mentioned that it is treated as earned leave. But it may not be granted for more than thrice in the same year.
