CHANDIGARH: In a recent development, Bittu Bajrangi, a prominent figure in the cow vigilante movement, has been granted bail by a Haryana court following his arrest in connection with communal clashes that occurred earlier this month in the Nuh district. The clashes, which transpired on July 31, resulted in the tragic loss of six lives, including two Home Guards. The situation further escalated as an anti-encroachment initiative was launched by the Nuh administration post-violence, leading to the demolition of commercial establishments suspected to have played a role in the unrest.
Bajrangi's legal entanglement began when he was apprehended by the Faridabad police, two days subsequent to the violence outbreak. The initial arrest was related to another case linked to the communal clashes. However, he was subsequently released on bail, having cooperated with the investigation. This new arrest stemmed from a fresh First Information Report (FIR) filed against him at Nuh's Sadar Police Station. The FIR, filed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Usha Kundu, alleged that Bajrangi and his unidentified supporters not only wielded swords and trishuls but also confronted and threatened ASP Kundu's police unit when they attempted to stop them. The FIR cited various charges under the Indian Penal Code, including rioting, unlawful assembly, assault on public servants, and criminal intimidation, alongside provisions of the Arms Act.
The court's decision to grant Bajrangi bail, given his involvement in the violent clashes, has sparked discussions about the legal consequences of such incidents and the role of vigilante groups in maintaining societal harmony.
