New Delhi: As the world witnessing the spread of COVID-19 variant Omicron at an unprecedented rate across the world, India along with other nations are on high alert.
So far, India has reported 73 cases of omicron which is raising concerns in the country.
According to a report by Reuters, Omicron multiplies itself 70 times more quickly, compared to the Delta variant, in tissues that line airway passages, which may facilitate person-to-person spread.
As per the Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, whose statement has force the world to have a look at their precaution measures to contain the spread of omicron further.
"Seventy-seven countries have now reported cases of Omicron, and the reality is that Omicron is probably in most countries, even if it hasn't been detected yet. Omicron is spreading at a rate we have not seen with any previous variant," the statement read.
Coming to India, the country has so far reported 64 cases of which Maharashtra has recorded 32 cases till Wednesday -- the highest in the country -- forcing the state government to put restrictions in the financial capital of the country i.e. Mumbai. The state government has banned large gatherings in Mumbai as well.
After Maharashtra, Rajasthan is on the second place as the state so far has reported 17 cases.
Now, if we look at the global scenario, the leaders there too are worry and interestingly, the United Kingdom (UK) on Wednesday recorded the highest daily coronavirus cases ever since the COVID emerged.
As per a British Health Chief there could be an astonishing rise in cases over the next few days. The omicron cases are doubling every two to three days, the variant is expected to soon replace delta as the dominant strain in the country.
According to President of the European Union, soon omicron will become the dominant variant in a month. He also said that once again, this Christmas will be overshadowed by the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the continuously rising omicron cases have made the United States (US) too worry.
"Our delta surge is ongoing and, in fact, accelerating. And on top of that, we're going to add an omicron surge," said Dr Jacob Lemieux, who monitors variants for a research collaboration led by Harvard Medical School was quoted as saying by media several reports.
Reportedly, health experts and researchers in Hong Kong have urged people to get a third dose of Covid-19 vaccine as soon as possible, after a study showed insufficient antibodies were generated by the Sinovac and BioNTech products to fend off Omicron.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man from Bengaluru was rescued from Omicron, He also filmed his recovery in a viral video.
"I got infected with covid-19 during the second wave." I tested positive for the Omicron type after receiving two doses of covid vaccination. I was more afflicted by the Delta virus than by the Omicron strain. When asked about the treatment, he said, "There is no unique therapy for the Omicron variant." Antibiotics and vitamin C tablets were given to the patients. Because I wasn't tired and the symptoms were modest, I worked from the hospital ward for a week," he claimed in the video.
According to accounts, the guy contracted Omicron after travelling from South Africa in November. He tested negative in RT-PCR testing at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL), but he began to display symptoms on the third day of his home isolation, following which he was found to be Omicron positive.
"After arriving from South Africa, he was tested negative in RT-PCR testing at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL). He had throat irritation and cough indications on the third day of his isolation, requiring a repeat RT-PCR test at a private lab, which confirmed the Covid-19 virus. After that, the sample was submitted to be sequenced for genomics, which found an Omicron variant,'' according reports.
He was hospitalized at the authorized hospital in accordance with official rules. He was later found to be negative in two RT-PCR testings. He was released after blood tests and an x-ray revealed that he was fine.
