SRINAGAR: In an encounter in Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, security forces neutralised a terrorist, according to police on Tuesday.
The terrorist, identified as Aqib Mustaq Bhat, had been collaborating with the Resistance Front, a local affiliate of Lashkar-e-Taiba. He had previously worked for the outlawed terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen (TRF).
As per Kashmir ADGP Vijay Kumar, Bhat was responsible for the recent murder of Sanjay Sharma, a Kashmiri Pandit, in Pulwama.
Kashmir Zone Police stated, quoting Kumar, that "a terrorist from Pulwama named Aqib Mustaq Bhat was killed (A category). He had formerly worked for the HM terror group; currently, he is employed by TRF. Sanjay Sharma's murderer was "neutralized."
Days after the intentional assassination of yet another Kashmiri Pandit, an encounter occurred in the village of Padgampora in the Awantipora tehsil of the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Kashmir Zone Police stated earlier in the day, "In Padgampora Awantipora in the Pulwama district, an encounter has begun. The police and security personnel are at work. Further information will come later."
On his way to a nearby market on Sunday, Sanjay Sharma, an Achan native in Pulwama, was fired upon by terrorists. The 45-year-old victim, a bank security guard, passed away from his wounds in the hospital.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were urged to remove L-G Manoj Sinha by the Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti, a well-known Pandit organisation in the Valley.
“The current Lt. Governor should be replaced immediately for allowing the Kashmiri Pandits to be killed by the militants for some vested agenda and vendetta to malign the ruling political party at the national and international levels.” according to the statement. "KPSS most humbly and with folded hands requests the Hon'ble Prime Minister and Hon'ble Home Minister to rest their personal agendas and self-conceit and take the issue seriously," the statement read.
