NEW DELHI: A business class passenger on an Air India aircraft from Mumbai to Chennai uploaded a video of an insect he discovered in his onboard lunch on Monday.

"Insect in the business class meal at @airindiain. It appears that no care was taken with hygiene. AI 671, Mumbai to Chennai, Seat 2C, was the aeroplane I was on," Mahavir Jain, a traveller, tweeted.

Air India's response to the video was as follows: "We regret hearing about your flight experience with us, Mr. Jain. It's not pleasant to hear this. Every step of the process has strict cleanliness requirements that we adhere to. But could you DM your departure date, the flight information, and your seat number? We'll bring this to the attention of our catering staff for assessment and action right now," stated the airline.

Two similar accusations about Air India arose earlier as well. An Indian envoy complained about the business class lounge's subpar amenities at New York's John F. Kennedy airport.

The Air India business class lounge at JFK Airport allegedly contained "empty" food containers, disposable plates and cutlery, and "unresponsive" staff, according to Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, India's High Commissioner to Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor criticised Air India after receiving subpar dishes on a flight from Nagpur to Mumbai.

He tweeted, "@airindiain, wake up. 07:40 flight from Nagpur to Mumbai. Breakfast served with watermelon, cucumber, tomato, and sev, a cold chicken tikka, sandwich with a tiny amount of mayonnaise-drizzled, chopped cabbage, and glucose syrup with a sponge, sweetened cream, and yellow glaze, posted on Twitter by Kapoor.

“Really! Is this the recommended breakfast for Indians?” he e stated this in a different tweet.
