Photo Of Kashmir Kebab Seller 'Kebabiyana' Wins International Food Photography Award

The image captured by Debdatta Chakraborty featuring a street meet vendor working in an eatery filled with smoke won the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022

NEW DELHI: A photograph featuring a street food vendor working in an eatery filled with smoke has won the international award of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2022.

In the award-winning picture, a man from Kashmir is seen tending pieces of grilled meat kebabs in a smoke-covered oven.

The image titled 'Kebabiyana' has been clicked in Kashmir's Srinagar by Debdatta Chakraborty, a photographer from India.

According to reports, the photographer captured the amazing moment from the Khayam Chowk in Srinagar which is very famous for food and known as foodie's heaven.

It is a site where one can witness full of smoke, grills and the aroma of wazwan kebabs loved by locals and tourists across the world.

On Wednesday 27 April, the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year organizers took to Twitter to announce the overall winner and congratulated Debdatta Chakraborty for winning the Food Photo contest with Kebabiyana.

Earlier, thousands of entries were submitted from 60 countries worldwide for the food photo competition and the winners are named on a live-streamed platform.

While speaking about the achievement, Chakraborty said that he clicked the picture from the busy street of Khayam Chowk located in the capital city of Kashmir.

He captured the image when the kebab seller was just setting it up in its preparation to start the daily business.

Expressing his happiness over such a great success, the photographer took to Instagram and shared the image with the caption that reads 'Can't believe.'

The founder and director of the Pink Lady Food Photography contest, Caroline Kenyon said that the photography by Chakraborty consists of the beautifully captured billowing embrace of the smoke.

The image also had golden light as well as the expression of the subject while preparing the meat to share added Kenyon.

The director further said "sparks fly from the skewers, whose roasting we can almost smell, we imagine the warm, delicious aroma; the photograph is gentle and powerful, nourishes our souls"
