PM Modi Announces Ex-Gratia of Rs 2 Lakh for Mizoram Stone Quarry Deceased's Kin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi voluntarily announced an amount if Rs 2 lakh ex- gratia for the families of the workers who lost their lives in the Mizoram Stone Quarry incident

AIZAWL: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief for the labourers that died in the disastrous Mizoram stone quarry  incident. The PM also decided to voluntarily give an amount of Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF, to the families of each deceased person in the disaster. Along with that, a compensation amount of Rs 50,000 is announced for all the injured workers. 

Narendra Modi also tweeted, saying that, his thoughts and prayers are with the families of deceased who lost their lives in the tragic episode in Mizoram. An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF will be given to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 compensation to the injured ones. 

The tragic episode happened when a stone quarry collapsed in South Mizoram's Hnahthial district. The incident took place on 14th of November 2022 in Maudarh village, and a number of 10 people lost their lives while working at the site. 

The District Deputy Commissioner of R Lalremsanga revealed that 8 bodies out of 12 have been recovered from the site on 15th November, Tuesday. According to the reports from 16th November, Wednesday, 2 more bodies were recovered after an intense search operation in the quarry, increasing the death toll from 8 to 10 people. 

The Commissioner informed that the missing two persons are residents of Mizoram and Assam. The department will continue with the search operation until the missing persons are found. 

Vineet Kumar, the Superintendent of Police stated that a total of 13 people were working in the stone quarry, and only one labourer managed to escape the tragic episode. According to the eyewitnesses, the workers had dug the spot too deep causing an unstable foundation of the stone quarry. This led to the collapse of the place. The quarry is owned by ABCI Infrastructure Pvt Ltd.
