PM Modi Honours Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru On Shahid Diwas

The deaths of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru all occurred on this day in history.

NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Shahid Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi honored Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru.

He thought back on their "unparalleled" sacrifice during the British Raj-era campaign for India's independence. The PM tweeted, “India will always remember the sacrifice of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru. These are greats who made an unparalleled contribution to our freedom struggle.” He also shared a video alongside it.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on the occasion and wrote, “With their indomitable spirit & desire for freedom, the valiant trio of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev & Rajguru galvanised youth of Bharat to rise up against colonial British Raj. On their punyatithi, commemorated as #ShaheedDiwas, I pay my homage to the freedom heroes.”

It should be noted that March 23 is one of numerous days marked in the nation as Martyrs' Day or Shahid Diwas to honor those who gave their lives in the ultimate sacrifice during India's war for independence.

The deaths of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru all occurred on this day in history. For their involvement in the Lahore conspiracy case, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev received death sentences and were given the order to be hanged on March 24, 1931.

The three were executed on March 23, 1931, in the Lahore jail after the timetable was advanced by 11 hours. In the meantime, tributes for this day have arrived from all around the nation. Individuals and political leaders are recalling their contributions to the struggle for India's independence.

The thoughts of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev will always remain immortal. Salute to our great revolutionaries who sacrificed their lives for the motherland. #ShaheedDiwas”, wrote Congress supremo Mallikarjun Kharge.
