Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu detained By Police At Saharanpur Border In UP

While speaking with reports, Punjab Congress chief Sidhu has said that he would go for hunger strike if action not taken against Union Minister Ajay Kumar Misra's son by Friday.

New Delhi: The newly appointed Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu was detained by the police of Uttar Pradesh from Saharanpur border after the Congress leader led a protest march Punjab to Lakhimpur Kheri in protest against the killing of farmers.

During the protest, other ministers, MLAs and including Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi joined Sidhu during his protest.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was seen arguing with the policemen.

While speaking with reports, Punjab Congress chief Sidhu has said that he would go for hunger strike if police or governments do not take any action against Union Minister Ajay Kumar Misra's son by Friday.

A large number of party leaders including ministers, legislators, and workers first assembled at Mohali and then headed towards Lakhimpur Kheri in their vehicles.

Along with the nation, protest against the killing of eight persons, including farmers, at Tikunia village of Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district was staged in Lakhimpur district on Tuesday. These eight persons were killed and 12-15 severely injured in Tikunia village of Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district on October 3, after they were run over by a car that was allegedly part of a convoy of vehicles in which the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra Teni was travelling. Some of them were killed in police fire after eruption of the protest following the incident.

Condemning the 'heinous' incident, the activists of Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) and its brother-sister organizations organized a protest meeting in North Lakhimpur town in connection with the nationwide Protest Day observed in regarding the issue. Further, the protesters burnt the effigy of MoS Ajay Mishra Teni in the town. By staging the protest, the political party activists demanded exemplary punishment to Ashish Mishra Teni and other accused persons and compensation to the deceased and injured.
