Ragpicker Sets Social Media Abuzz with English Fluency, Soulful Voice

The lady, who introduced herself as Cecilia Margaret Lawrence, sang a song with euphoria and passion, and said she was born "to sing for the lord"

BENGALURU: A video of a ragpicker speaking fluently in English and showcasing her singing skills on the streets of Bengaluru has been making the rounds on social media over the past few days.

The ragpicker lady, who introduced herself as Cecilia Margaret Lawrence, said she lived in Japan for seven years from 2007 to 2014. She sang a song during the interaction with the person (who posted her video on social media) and said she was born "to sing for the lord". The woman, who had a photograph with her, also narrated details about some of her bad experiences while living in Japan.

In 2019, another woman had become famous overnight after a video of her crooning a song went viral on social media. The internet sensation Ranu Mandal was spotted by an engineer at Ranaghat railway station in West Bengal. Ranu was singing a song (Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hain) from the 1972 movie Shor which the man recorded and posted it online.

Only a week after the video went viral on social media Renu was called to star in the music reality show Superstar Singer which not only got her the platform to showcase her talent on national television but also a lifetime opportunity of singing with the Bollywood singer Himesh Reshamiya for his next film "Happy Hardy and Heer". The song is called "Teri Meri Kahani".

In 2020, a beggar of Patna, Bihar became a sensation after a video of him flawlessly singing an American singer Jim Reeves' popular track 'He'll Have To Go' surfaced on social media. In the video, the man, who introduced himself as Sunny Baba, fluently responds in English to all the questions he is asked before going on to sing the song. The video also shows a person asking Sunny what does he do in day-to-day life, to which he responds with "I beg" with a big smile.
