New Delhi: A video of Patanjali Ayurved founder Baba Ramdev has emerged on social media in which he is seen challenging the authorities to arrest him, as the Indian Medical Association (IMA) issued a Rs 1000 crore defamation notice to Ramdev for his recent comments questioning the efficacy of allopathy treatments.

In the video, Ramdev is seen saying, "Khair, arrest toh unka baap bhi nahi kar sakta Swami Ramdev ko (Even their father can't arrest Swami Ramdev). They keep creating such trends, like 'Thug Ramdev', Mahathug Ramdev', 'Giraftar Ramdev'. Let them do it. Our people have become accustomed to such trends and our trends always reach the top."

Several people on Twitter asked the authorities to arrest Ramdev after he called allopathy a "stupid science" and alleged that lakhs of people had died after taking allopathic medicines for COVID-19. Ramdev even challenges Modi Govt into arresting him, says "UNKA BAAP BHI ARREST NAHI KAR SAKTA."

As the war of words between the IMA and Ramdev has escalated over the past few days after he described modern medicine as "stupid science," the IMA on Wednesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding that Ramdev be booked under sedition charges for alleged misinformation campaign on vaccination and challenging government protocols for treatment of COVID-19 after lodging a strong protest.

As per the sources, the medical body of modern doctors also served a defamation notice on Ramdev for his remarks against allopathy and allopathic practitioners, demanding an apology from him within 15 days, failing which it said it will demand compensation of Rs 1,000 crore from the yoga guru.

On Sunday, he was forced to withdraw a statement made in the viral video clip in which he is heard questioning some of the medicines being used to treat the COVID-19 infection and saying that "lakhs have died from taking allopathic medicines for Covid-19."

Ramdev claimed that lakhs of patients died because of allopathic medicines rather than a shortage of oxygen. He also claimed that over 10,000 doctors in India have died even after getting both doses of the COVID vaccine.

The remarks were met with vociferous protests from the doctors' association, after which Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to withdraw the "extremely unfortunate" statement. A day later, the yoga guru posed 25 questions to the IMA in an 'open letter' on his Twitter handle, asking if allopathy offered permanent relief for ailments such as hypertension and type-1 and 2 diabetes.

Soon after, Ramdev's close aide Acharya Balkrishna took to Twitter, saying the yoga guru and Ayurveda were being targeted by allopathic practitioners under the IMA as part of a conspiracy.

Ramdev also blamed COVID patients for not breathing properly and instead complain of oxygen shortages. "Patients just don't know how to breathe properly, and therefore, spread negativity and complain of a shortage of oxygen and cremation sites," he is heard saying.
