Re-Development of 91 Stations Under NFR Planned; PM Modi To Launch Scheme For 56 On Sunday

NFR issued an official statement to say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to lay the foundation stone for re-development of 56 stations under it on Sunday.

GUWAHATI: As many as 91 stations under Northeast Frontier Railways (NFR) are planned to be re-developed under an initiative of the central government called ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ Scheme, railway officials said on Saturday.

NFR issued an official statement to say that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to lay the foundation stone for re-development of 56 stations under it on Sunday.

Out of the 56 stations for which the foundation stones are being laid on Sunday, 32 are located in Assam, 3 of them are in Tripura, 16 stations are in West Bengal, 3 of them in Bihar and one each in Nagaland and Meghalaya.

An officer of the NFR disclosed that a total outlay of Rs 5100 crore has been allocated for the re-development of 91 stations under NFR. Out of the total figure, Rs 1960 crore is chalked out to be utilised for re-development of these 56 stations.

According to the official statement released, the scheme for re-development envisages the development of stations on a continuous basis, with a long-term approach in sight.

The project involves preparation of Master Plans and their implementation in different phases in order to improve the amenities for passengers at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lifts, escalators, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping etc. keeping in view the requirements at each of such stations.

“Improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multimodal integration, amenities for specially-abled persons, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballast less tracks, Roof Plazas as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centers at the station in the long term are also included in the scheme,” the officer added.

Along with the stations under NFR, the Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for re-development of 508 railway stations across the country under ‘Amrit Bharat Scheme’ on Sunday.
