Russia-Ukraine Crisis: Ukraine's Ambassador to India Urges PM Modi to Contact Putin

NEW DELHI: Ukrainian Ambassador to India Igor Polikha said in a media briefing streamed on social media that India is one of the few nations in the world which can influence Russia, and India is one of them.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president urged world leaders to provide defence assistance and help protect Ukraine's airspace from Russia, reported the Associated Press.

Polikha urged PM Narendra Modi to immediately contact Russian President Vladimir Putin and our President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ukraine said that at least seven people were killed and nine wounded by Russian shelling, as per a Reuters report. The AFP, meanwhile reported that Ukraine said it killed 'around 50 Russian occupiers' without providing details

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is urging global leaders to provide defence assistance to Ukraine and help protect its airspace from Russia.

In a statement that comes amid Russia's wide-ranging attack on Ukraine that began early Thursday, Zelenskyy said that Russia "has unleased a war with Ukraine and the entire democratic world".

He asked for world leaders to provide large-scale defence support and to protect Ukraine's airspace from the "aggressor".
