AMRITSAR: A second blast was reported from the vicinity of the Golden Temple on the morning of Monday after an explosion took place near the same location on Saturday. No injury or damage to property was reported because of the blast on Monday morning.
The blasts that took place on Saturday and Monday happened on a heritage street that leads to the Golden Temple complex. It is a very important location as the temple receives a huge number of devotees across multiple religions every day and they pass through this street.
Witnesses reported that the blast on Monday took place at around 6:30 AM when the location was not crowded. Police teams along with forensic specialists reached the location soon after the incident. Although no details were given out, they collected samples at the blast site to ascertain the perpetrators.
Local people have demanded a thorough probe into the blasts in the vicinity of the holiest of shrines for the Sikh community of the country. They also mentioned how the blasts have triggered a condition of panic among the locals as well as the devotees and tourists.
The blast that took place on Saturday led to the injury of six people and knocked down the glass panes from the windows. Following this, an extensive search was carried out by the police department in the sewerage lines for any hidden objects or explosive materials. They had also blocked a side of the road to avoid any interruptions during the incident.
Following the search, the police department concluded that the blast was no terrorist attack by a mere accident and urged the public not to panic. Amritsar police commissioner Naunihal Singh tweeted: “Investigations are on to establish the facts of the incidents and there is no need to panic. Urge citizens to maintain peace and harmony, advise all to fact check before sharing.”
