Second Phase Of Vivo IPL 2021 To Resume Today In Dubai

The tournament, which started in April, was previous suspended midway as many players and staff had tested positive for COVID-19.

New Delhi: The second phase of Vivo IPL 2021 will begin today in Dubai. The opening match will be played between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. 

The tournament, which had started in April, had been suspended midway after many players and staff tested positive for COVID-19. A total of 29 games have been played and the rest of the event was postponed to September.

The next 31 games will be played by Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi between September 19 to October 15.

Right before the games had been suspended, Delhi Capitals had claimed the top spot by winning six matches out of eight. Delhi Capitals, led by Rishab Pant, had lost to Mumbai Indians in the final of IPL 2020 and were declared as the runner-up.

The second place was claimed by Chennai Super Kings by winning five games out of seven. The team is led by none other than Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

At third place is Royal Challengers with five wins out of seven matches, followed by Mumbai Indians with four wins out of seven.

The fifth spot is claimed by Rajasthan Royals, who were the title winners of the inaugural tournament.

K L Rahul-led Punjab Kings is at the sixth spot.

Right at the bottom of the table is Sunrisers Hyderabad with just one win out of seven matches. The team is led by Kane Williamson and must win six matches out of the next seven in order to qualify.
