SRINAGAR: In a major victory for the security forces, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully thwarted a significant infiltration attempt in the northern region of Kashmir. The operation took place in the Kala Jungle area of the Machhal sector in Kupwara, resulting in the elimination of four terrorists.
According to an official statement released by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the joint operation led to the neutralization of four terrorists who were trying to infiltrate from Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) into the Indian side. The operation, which commenced in the early hours of Friday, is still ongoing along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machhal sector.
A senior Army officer confirmed that the alert jawans stationed at the Line of Control detected suspicious movement by infiltrators and swiftly foiled their mission by eliminating them. This successful operation holds great significance as it occurred just before the commencement of the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage and during the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the Union Territory.
Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu and Kashmir for his two-day visit, commencing with paying homage to the statue of Syama Prasad Mookerjee at the BJP office in Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. Subsequently, he is scheduled to address a public rally at Bhagwati Nagar.
The operation in the Machhal sector adds to the recent string of successes achieved by the security forces. Earlier this month, seven terrorists were eliminated near the LoC in Kupwara. On June 16, five Pakistani terrorists were gunned down in the Jamagund area of Kupwara during an attempted infiltration. A collaborative operation between the Kupwara police and the Indian Army resulted in a fierce encounter that led to the elimination of the infiltrators.
Similarly, on June 14, two terrorists of Pakistani origin were neutralized by the security forces in the Dobanar Machhal area of Kupwara, situated in close proximity to the LoC. The terrorists were intercepted while attempting to infiltrate Indian territory, and the security forces promptly responded, eliminating the imminent threat.
The continuous successes in counter-terrorism operations are a testament to the vigilance and effectiveness of the security forces in maintaining the integrity and security of the region. The ongoing combing operation in the Machhal sector aims to ensure that the area remains free from any remaining threats. Further details about the operation will be disclosed once it concludes.
With the elimination of these terrorists, the security forces have dealt a significant blow to the attempts of infiltrators from across the border. The successful operations not only bolster the morale of the security personnel but also send a strong message to those who seek to disrupt peace and stability in the region.
