New Delhi: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her gratitude her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, for safely evacuation of Bangladeshi nationals from war-hit Ukraine.

According to reports, apart from evacuating Indians, the government has also rescued citizens of Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Tunisia under Operation Ganga.

As the Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire, the Indian government has started evacuating its stranded citizens from Ukraine's Sumy to Poltava. The ceasfire was announced so that humantariant corridors could be established in the cities of Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv and Mariupol.

The war between Russia and Ukraine is the largest after World War II and it has prompted a humanitarian crisis in Europe. As per the reports, over 2 million refugees have left for Poland, Hungary and Romania and other nations of the European Union due to incessant Russian shelling on Ukraine's cities.

However, Ukraine has alleged that Russia knowingly is targeting the civilian areas to hurt morale.

So far, three rounds of talks have been held by both sides in Belarus but no results have come out of those discussions barring the agreement on humanitarian corridors.
