Kolkata: Veteran actor turned politician Shatrughan Sinha has once again switched sides and has joined the Trinamool Congress on March 15.
Sinha, who was with the Congress party prior to his move, has said that TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee had invited him to join the party.
"Happy to share that on an invite from our own, tigress of Bengal, tried, tested, successful honourable CM, Bengal @Mamataofficial I have joined TMC. Shall be contesting under the dynamic leadership of a great lady, the great leader of the masses in the true sense, Mamata Banerjee," he tweeted.
Earlier in 2019, he quit the BJP to join the Congress citing that the Saffron party had become a one-man show and said that all decisions were made by the Prime Minister's Office.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee had said that Shatrughan Sinha will be contesting from the Asansol Assembly seat in the upcoming by-polls in the state on April 12.
The Asansol parliamentary seat was left vacant after former BJP MP and Union Minister Babul Supriyo resigned. He also decided to part ways with the BJP and later joined the TMC.
Supriyo will be contesting from the Ballygunge seat which was left vacant after the demise of TMC MLA Subrata Mukherjee on November 4, last year. Subrata was undergoing treatment at the state-run Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital. He happened to be an important member of the Mamata Banerjee cabinet.
