New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani has been given the Ministry of Minority Affairs on Wednesday, in addition to her existing portfolio, after Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who held the portfolio resigned.

The Rajya Sabha tenure of these both ministers ends on Thursday i.e on July 7 and further, it was extended by the BJP. However, it is believed that the party can give them a big responsibility.

Naqvi was a Rajya Sabha member from UP from 2010 to 2016. In 2016, he was sent to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand.

Naqvi won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1998 and was made Minister of State in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. After that, on 26 May 2014, he became the Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs in the Modi government.

After the resignation of Najma Heptulla on 12 July 2016, he got independent charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. On 30 May 2019, He joined the Modi cabinet on May 30, 2019.

RCP Singh, who is from JD(U) comes from an ally party in Bihar, JD(U), and had sworn in as a minister in the Modi government a year ago. However, reportedly, in the recent announcement of the Rajya Sabha tickets, Nitish Kumar denied RCP Singh's election to the Rajya Sabha.
