Soldier from Himachal killed as Pakistan violates ceasefire in J&K's Poonch

Guwahati: An Indian Army jawan was killed on Friday night after Pakistan violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, officials informed on Saturday.

Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Devender Anand confirmed the killing.

According to officials, 24-year-old Sepoy Rohin Kumar was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries as Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in the Balakot sector of Mendhar sub-division.

"Pakistan Army resorted to an unprovoked ceasefire violation on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri Sector (J&K). Own troops responded strongly to the enemy fire," Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand stated in a release.

"Sep Rohin Kumar was a brave, highly motivated, and sincere soldier. The nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice and devotion to duty," Anand further added.

As per reports, this is the seventh killing of soldiers along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri sector in Pakistan shelling in the past two months.

Kumar was a resident of Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, officials further informed.
