NEW DELHI: Former Congresswoman Sonia Gandhi has been admitted to Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
According to a statement from the hospital, the 76-year-old’s condition is currently stable.
Mrs. Gandhi was admitted to the hospital on Thursday, as per statement of a hospital representative.
Arup Basu, senior consultant, Department of Chest Medicine, and his team are taking care of Mrs. Gandhi. Gandhi has been admitted "on account of fever," claims DS Rana, chairman of the trust society at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
Mrs. Gandhi is still in the care of the hospital. This is the second time, Sonia Gandhi is being hospitalised in the same year.
In the month of January, Sonia Gandhi was admitted in a hospital for a viral respiratory ailment.
She recently got back from Raipur's 85th Congress plenary meeting.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Gandhi made mention of her political retirement and expressed her delight that her "innings may finish with the Bharat Jodo Yatra."
The Congress Steering Committee decided against having elections for the Working Committee, the top body of the party, on the first day of the conference and authorised Mallikarjun Kharge to nominate its members.
In October, Sonia Gandhi transferred leadership of the 137-year-old organisation to Mr. Kharge, a committed supporter, after suffering two consecutive election defeats, years of internal strife over a reform, and a leadership exodus.
The Gandhis, who are regarded as the founding family of the party, have a firm hold over it.
Rahul Gandhi claimed at a talk at Cambridge University that, the institutional framework necessary for democracy is becoming restricted and that the fundamental foundation of Indian democracy is being attacked. He added that Pegasus is being used by the government to spy on him.
