Nainital: In yet another tragic event, a speeding SUV hit an adult tiger on the Ramnagar-Nainital Highway, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place on Wednesday. Reports suggest that the high-speeding car hit the tiger while it was crossing the road.

Although the concerned authorities were alerted about the tragic incident, however, the body of the tiger was recovered only on next day morning. The body was found around 150 meters away from the incident spot. The tiger was cremated after the postmortem report came. The driver of the SUV was arrested under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

The SUV was also damaged during the collision.

The Indian Forest Service officer, Ramesh Pandey took to Twitter to mourn about the death of the tiger, calling it a "terrible loss."

"A terrible loss. Speed took another precious life. Driving slow and cautiously is must in wildlife-rich areas," the IFS officer tweeted.

Data shows that around 16 tigers lost their lives due to unfortunate road accidents in Uttar Pradesh in the last 20 years. In 2019, on the Ramnagar-Haldwani road, a pregnant tigress was killed after a vehicle ran over the animal.

After poaching, the biggest cause of unnatural deaths among tigers in the country is road kills.
