NEW DELHI: Popular Indian airline, SpiceJet has decided to initiate an enquiry on two of their pilots after pictures of them having snacks in the cockpit were shared on several media channels.
According to reports, the incident took place on the day of the Holi festival this year, that is March 8. The two pilots in charge of the Delhi to Guwahati flight of SpiceJet were spotted having snacks on the console.
The airline reportedly grounded the two pilots who were seen eating gujiya, a popular Indian snack, and tea inside the cockpit. On top of that the cups can be seen placed on the critical console of the cockpit. As per the officials of SpiceJet airline, this action of the pilots put the safety of the flight in jeopardy.
The latest reports about the incident suggested that both the pilots on the duty of the flight have been taken off the roster as of now and an official enquiry has been initiated.
A spokesperson with the airline mentioned that the company has a very strict policy regarding the consumption of food and beverages inside the cockpit and this has to be followed by all flight crews. "Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken upon completion of the investigation," added the spokesperson.
In another incident, technical issues caused Air India’s Chicago-New Delhi flight to be cancelled and passengers claimed that they were not informed of the delays or given alternative transportation options until Wednesday evening.
Some travellers even expressed dissatisfaction over the fact that it is still unclear when they will be able to fly to Delhi. "We are still at the airport, and the aeroplane is nearly 22 hours late. Nobody is there to lead us. The airline crew hardly ever provides any information. We don't know when we will be able to visit Delhi,” stated Gopal Krishan Solanki, who was awaiting information regarding the aircraft.
