New Delhi: A national champion in Taekwondo who has won gold medals twice has been arrested by Delhi police and is accused of over 30 crimes. The accused has been identified as Suraj alias Fighter and was arrested from Moti Nagar in Delhi.
Suraj is also a former participant of the singing reality show Indian Idol and has over 30 criminal cases registered against him. Several cases of theft and robbery have been lodged against the Taekwondo champion in different police stations.
Suraj was arrested by a patrolling team of Delhi police comprising ASI Narendra and Constable Rajendra ji at Najafgarh Road.
The police on patrolling duty intercepted Suraj after they found him suspicious as he was riding a scooty. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the scooty was stolen from PS Kirti Nagar.
Suraj later admitted to his crimes during interrogation and said that he was involved in snatching and looting over 2.5 kgs of gold from PS Sabzi Mandi area of North district. The police also recovered a country-made pistol with one live cartridge, 55 mobile phones, and four two-wheelers from his possession.
"He committed robbery with his two associates by using country made pistol and knife on motor cycle. He also confessed to commit over 100 snatching in different parts of Delhi specially in West, Outer, Central, North Districts. During the course of investigation, 55 mobile phones and 04 two wheelers have also been recovered at the instance of accused from different places," said DCP West Urvija Goel.
Suraj lives in Gupta Enclave in Uttam Nagar in Delhi and is 28 years old. He was also a student of Delhi University's Aurobindo College and hold a bachelor degree.
He was also among the top 50 contestants of Indian Idol 4 and has is a two-time national gold medalist in Taekwondo.
