Tamil Nadu Govt Announces Night Curfew From Jan 6, Full Lockdown On Jan 9

Chennai: In a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19, the Tamil Nadu government has announced a night curfew from Thursday and also enforced shutdown on Sundays.

The night curfew timing is 10 pm to 5 am. There will also be a total lockdown on January 9, when only essential services will be allowed.

Apart from these, people will not be allowed at places of worship on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Also, no restaurants, malls, or shops will be allowed to open during this time.

The order came after Chief Minister MK Stalin met state Health Minister Ma Subramanian, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan and state public health officials, including TS Selvavinayagam, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, on Tuesday, January 4.

However, essential services, including private and bus services, milk and newspaper delivery, hospitals, ATMs, petrol pumps etc will be allowed to function.

Coming to transport, as per the order, there will be no public transport available and also no metros will be in service.
