NEW DELHI: Indian women's hockey team took an early lead in the first quarter against the Argentinian women, thanks to a penalty corner.

However, Argentina skipper Noel Barrionuevo scored her second goal on the day to put them ahead against India in the women's hockey semi-final on Wednesday.

Argentina came fighting back in the second quarter. Argentina's captain took the onus on herself and found the equalizer. At half-time, the match is evenly poised. Indian women's hockey team, if they win, will be assured of their first-ever Olympic medal.

Notably, Argentina's lead with 2-1 at the end of the third quarter and despite the slender lead took much in control of proceedings in the last quarter-hour.

Although, with fithe ve minutes to go, Argentina was holding firm, however, India continues to search for an equalizer and has had a close shave after the Argentines missed from close range.
