Telecommunications Department Launches TAFCO Portal To Prevent Illegal Use of SIM Cards

NEW DELHI: In a bid to prevent unlawful use of SIM cards, a portal TAFCOP has been launched recently by the Department of Telecommunications.

Through the portal TAFCOP (The Telecom Analytics for Fraud management and Consumer Protection) people can get to know if their SIM card issued against their Aadhar card is being used by anyone without their awareness.

Subscribers are informed by the portal about the number of connections they possess and also whether they have more than nine multiple connections in their name by sending them text messages (SMS). People can send reports about the numbers that they no longer use by visiting the portal. After someone reports about the same, the numbers will be blocked or deactivated by the telecom service providers.

The portal also gives the option to people to take action via the website if they possess in excess of nine multiple connections or connections which are registered by them in their name. After making a request, users can check the status by logging in with their number and entering the "Ticket ID Ref No" in the "Request Status" box. After users get to the TAFCOP website, they need to provide their cell phone number in the website and verify it with a one-time password (OTP). The list of mobile numbers which are registered with their IDs will be shown by the portal. If people come across numbers registered on the portal which are not in their name, they can submit a report on the website.
