Terrorist Attack Police Party in Srinagar, 2 Policemen Martyred

The terrorists shot the two policemen from close range, a police official said. Security forces have launched an operation to track down the assailants.

Srinagar: Two policemen died after terrorists opened fire at a Police party in Barzulla area of the Srinagar district in Jammu and Kashmir on February 19.

We pay our rich tributes to the #martyrs and standby their families at this crucial juncture," tweeted the official account of Kashmir Zone police.

Meanwhile, following the attack, a search operation was launched by security forces in the Baghat area of Srinagar.

The Resistance Front (TRF), shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) has claimed the responsibility for the attack which was caught on CCTV.

The injured policemen were taken to a hospital where they succumbed, police said. The two slain policemen have been identified as Sg CT Mohammad Yousuf and Ct Suhail Ahmad.

It is to be mentioned that this is the second attack in the city in the past three days. Militants shot at and injured son of a restaurant owner in high-security Durganag area of the city on Wednesday.

The attacks in the city have come as a 24-member delegation of envoys from various countries visited Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday for assessing the ground situation in the union territory.

Earlier on February 16, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two militant associates of proscribed terror outfits of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM).

The two were arrested from Central Kashmir's Budgam district and incriminating material was recovered from their possession, officials said on Monday. "Budgam police along with 53RR have arrested two terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfits LeT and TuM," police said.

They have been identified as Sameer Ahmed Ittoo and Ubaid Ameen Mallah both residents of district Kulgam.

Police said during the preliminary investigation, it has come to fore that these persons were involved in grenade lobbying incidents in Pulwama and Kulgam districts of South Kashmir.
