NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court questioned jail officials on Monday regarding the discovery of four knives on the grounds of Tihar Jail, site of mobster Tillu Tajpuriya's alleged murder by members of a rival gang, according to police.

Despite the incident being visible on CCTV cameras that were installed in the jail's facilities, the court questioned why no preventive or corrective action was taken by the authorities.

In response to a plea filed by Tajpuriya's father and brother asking for a CBI inquiry into the ‘brutal murder’ that occurred on May 2 inside Tihar Jail grounds, Justice Jasmeet Singh sent notice to the Delhi government, the Director General of Prisons (Delhi), and the Commissioner of Police.

Senior counsel Maninder Singh was retained to represent the petitioners, who identified themselves as DTC drivers and asked for adequate security for themselves.

The high court set the matter for further hearing on May 25 and ordered the Delhi Police to secure the safety and security of the petitioners, who are the deceased's father and brother.

The jail superintendent in question was requested to appear in court on the following hearing date, and it was ordered that the Tihar jail administration provide an affidavit detailing how four knives were discovered within the facility.

Tajpuriya was allegedly attacked in front of security officers and again as they were removing him after being stabbed, according to a CCTV video from Tihar Jail that surfaced on social media.

On May 2, four accused members of the Gogi gang attacked Tajpuriya with homemade weapons inside the maximum security facility.

According to the video, the accused hit him again while he was being removed by security agents.

The footage showed the security staff watching in silence while the attackers repeatedly attacked the mobster.

Seven members of the Tamil Nadu Special Police (TNSP), who were on duty in a cell at Tihar Prison when Tajpuriya was fatally stabbed, have reportedly been suspended as a result of the incident, according to jail officials.
